Earl Reber
Executive Director
As executive director of eProtex, Earl leads a cross-functional team of IT, clinical engineering and HIPAA experts committed to leading healthcare providers to greater ePHI security and HIPAA compliance. With over 30 years in healthcare, Earl has served as CEO of Nurse Aide Training Center, COO and General Counsel to the RCS Companies, and in various hospital leadership positions.
Earl earned his Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from Oakland Community College, Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Siena Heights University, and Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Indiana University. A member of the Indiana and Indianapolis State Bar Associations, he’s also served as adjunct professor and board of trustees’ member at Siena Heights University, and advisory council member at Ivy Tech.
He currently serves in the Indiana HIMSS Board of Directors and has been selected as a presenter for the 2012 Annual HIMSS and AAMI Conferences — a reflection of his educational contributions to health IT audiences throughout the nation.
Derek Brost
Chief Security Officer
As chief security officer for eProtex, Derek Brost spearheads the development of solutions to health IT security and HIPAA compliance challenges. As such, he oversees risk assessment and mitigation efforts for nearly 100 hospitals nationwide.
His unique 15-year background in IS/IT operations, architecture and information security has prepared him to effectively address the IT and ePHI security needs of today’s healthcare industry. Previously, Derek worked in MIS operations in the manufacturing industry for five years. Since 2001, he has served as Systems Engineer, Information Security Officer and Manager of IS Security & Infrastructure in the healthcare arena.
A Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP), Derek lectures about ePHI security issues nationwide, earning an invitation to serve as contributing editor for TechNation magazine and presenter at the 2012 Annual HIMSS and AAMI Conferences.
Rick Hinesley
Senior Project Manager
Rick leverages over 30 years of healthcare IT experience, helping hospitals understand their true IT, IS and HIPAA compliance needs. After working with hospital staff to identify potential compliance and security issues through Safeguard Discovery, Rick coordinates with hospital stakeholders and the eProtex team to assess and implement a mitigation strategy. His mission is to deliver superior HIPAA compliance guidance and proper ePHI security so that healthcare providers can focus on patient care.
Prior to joining eProtex, Rick served as the Director of Information Technology for Auxiliary Services at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. With 21 years of active naval service, he retired as a Chief Hospital Corpsman/Bio-Medical Repair Technician in 1998, followed by a 12-year career as a federal government contractor. He has served as the U.S. Navy's Lead Senior Systems Engineer and directly deployed medical information systems onboard 30 U.S. Navy combat ships and 26 Naval Hospitals around the globe while with the Naval Medical Information Management Center in Bethesda, Md.
Rick has an Associate’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Repair from Regis University in Denver, Colo., and a Bachelor’s of Science in System Engineering from Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md. with specialized instruction in medical digital imaging, network design, program management and system communications.
